Eating healthy and well balanced diet is essential to living better. One needs to develop proper eating habits to stay healthy. Eating healthy foods does not mean that you have to binge on bland food.

Here are the 8 Keys to a Healthy Diet.

Complement your diet with foods rich in fibre: Food rich in fibre include whole grains, fruits, beans and vegetables. These foods will also provide you with vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Also they are low in fat and carbohydrates

Include anti oxidants in your diet: Eat lots of broccoli, citrus fruits, and cantaloupe, green and yellow vegetables as they are a good source of antioxidants that help prevent cancer and other diseases.

Restrict consumption of sugary foods: Sugar-rich foods are high in calorie and leads to many diseases. Foods such as fried snacks and white bread should also be strictly avoided.

Reduce intake of animal fat: Animal fat is a major source of saturated fat and that leads to high cholesterol. It is advised that you supplement your diet with lean meat, non-fat dairy products and skinless poultry.

Avoid consumption of processed foods: Processed foods are a source of hydrogenated vegetable oil and that leads to accumulation of fat. Fast foods available in supermarkets should be avoided.

Fill your diet with unsaturated fat: Eat lots of fish and nuts and also replace butter with canola or olive oil.

Eat in moderation: Take servings in moderate amounts. Do not stuff yourself with a lot of high-calorie foods. Eat a well-balanced diet.

Avoid taking vitamin supplements: Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Do not substitute food with artificial vitamin supplements.
