Why I Enjoy Making My Own Homemade Soap

I haven’t done it lately, but a few years back I use to make my own soap. I had such a blast doing it to. I made all sorts of different kinds of soaps such as herbal soaps, essential oil soaps, goat milk soap and medicinal soap.

My favorite was the lavender essential oil soap. It was very easy to make. Take a block of soap and shave some off of it, melt it in the microwave, pour into soap mold and add the oil. Then I would spritz the top of it with rubbing alcohol to take the bubbles out and allow it to sit for 30 minutes to set.

My bathroom would be filled with all sorts of nice smelling soaps. A bar of tea tree oil soap was great for skin irritations. Chamomile soap would help me settle for the night and relax and lavender would lull me to sleep. It was amazing how many different types of soaps I could come up with.

I eventually built myself a Website and began selling my soaps. I didn’t make a million dollars off of it, but I definitely made a few sales a week and it was a total blast having my own store. I eventually branched out to selling essential oils, incense and candles. I even made my own candles as well. It was a great little hobby that made some money on the side.

I stopped doing it because my life got a bit busy with kids and a job, however, I have been seriously thinking about starting it up again. I’m not sure how much time I can spend doing it, but it would definitely be fun to get back into it. Maybe I might even consider setting up another webstore and sell my soap like old times.

Another thing, there is this website that I would really like to tell you all about, it is written by Paul Welton at Enigin, and has some really great posts about energy savings, it is well worth a read!
