Zumba: A Great Cardio Workout

Zumba is a workout option that’s gaining tremendous popularity. I recently decided to take a class, after seeing a promotion on a banner advert I saw here, and I was blown away. Zumba uses these almost hypnotic Latin beats and a really fun exercise regime. The classes are an hour long, and there is a mixture of fast and slow movements as well as resistance training.
Being a former dancer, I’ve always leaned towards a cardio exercise with an emphasis on dancing. This class was full of dancing, yet people with absolutely no dance training were getting a great workout as well. It’s not the type of program that you have to be a professional dancer to get; the emphasis is on high energy rather than the technicality of the movements.
Not only is the class so much fun it’s addicting, the instructor’s energy was contagious. The woman leading the Zumba class was so high energy that it was impossible not to get into the workout. She was full of encouragement and yelled motivational phrases. From the people I’ve spoken to, all the instructors seem to have this high energy trait. It seems as though with a Zumba workout you don’t have to worry about getting stuck with an instructor that isn’t interested in what they’re doing.
I’m always looking for a new was to inspire myself to get to my cardio class every week and I have definitely found that inspiration with Zumba. I enjoyed my first class so much that I signed up for multiple classes through the week. I look forward to these Zumba workouts like I used to look forward to my dance classes. These classes are an incredible workout. I started noticing a difference in myself within a few short weeks. Every class is something new to look forward to and I don’t foresee myself getting jaded with this exercise regime anytime soon. For anyone interested in a high intensity cardio workout, I highly suggest signing up for a local Zumba class.
